Bed and Breakfasts Versus Hotels

Bed and breakfasts are uniquely different

from hotels in most cases in a very good way, they are comfortable, quiet and you’re host is usually the owner. Each bed-and-breakfast is different and can offer insight into the community the people that lived there. Huffman House is an historic bed and breakfast located in the heart of downtown Minden. When you check our bed-and-breakfast you were greeted by one of the owners who is truly happy that you’re there. Let’s face it at hotels sometimes the desk staff is overwhelmed in simply driven to get you checked in and moving along as quick as possible. Our home is far from being a cookie-cutter hotel void of personality, it’s an historic Federal style home built in 1918. When you arrive here the checking process is more about showing you around in helping you feel comfortable with your surroundings. Once you’ve had the tour you’re escorted to your room where we take the time to point out all the special amenities located within your private room.

Our bed-and-breakfast gives you a menu where you get to select what time you eat and what you would like prepared. Most bed-and-breakfast offer cooked to order breakfast served hot, very few hotels offer this treat unless they’re charging you an arm and leg. At bed and breakfasts complimentary breakfast are served with most published rates. Some bed and breakfasts such as Huffman House do offer special low rates that are room only or excludes breakfast so if you are booking through an Online Travel Agent (OTA) such as Expedia or Booking.com make sure you review if your rate includes breakfast.

Recently we have had several guests that Huffman House was there first bed-and-breakfast and they simply didn’t know what to expect. We explained to each that our bed-and-breakfast offers all the amenities of any major hotel chain in United States, high-definition TV’s, in room microwaves and refrigerators, expanded cable, premium TV channels, work desk with ergonomic chairs, blowdryers, high thread count linens, private baths, outdoor pool, sun deck, pool house and gazebo. We go on to explain Huffman House may be in an historic home but it has all conveniences that you would expect and a couple you probably wouldn’t such as high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the home as well as the grounds / poolside and an electronic lock that has a specific code for each guest allowing them to enter and exit the property as they wish (no odd curfews or time restraints here). So what’s the real difference between a bed and breakfast and your typical hotel I think it can be boiled down to a couple of words; Service, Comfort and a true taste for the city in which they host.
